Limiting Oxygen Index Tester, ASTM D2863 Test Method

Author:QINSUN Released in:2023-08 Click:165

The Limiting Oxygen Index Tester ASTMD2863 test method is used to measure the low concentration of oxygen (oxygen index) that promotes the burning of plastic candles. Qisnun Precision Electromechanical Technology Co., Ltd. can supply this test instrument. Customers in need are welcome to inquire in time.

Qisnun R&D Technical Engineer said ASTM D2863 is a method to determine the low concentration of oxygen in an oxygen/nitrogen mixture that will promote combustion in samples of plastic. No correlation to actual end use conditions.

Test procedure:

Place sample vertically in a glass chimney and establish oxygen through the airflow at the bottom of the chimney / Nitrogen environment. The upper edge of the specimen is inflamed and the concentratithe amount of oxygen in the stream is reduced until the flame is no longer sustained.

Sample Size:

According to the type of test material, the sample contains 6Characteristics. For injection molded samples, the recommended size is 80-150mm long x 10mm wide x 4mm thick. Results of different materials should only be compared when testing on samples of similar size.

Data analysis:

The oxygen index, expressed as a percentage, is calculated based on the final oxygen concentration tested. The test results relate only to the behavior of the specimen under the conditions of this test method and should not be used to infer the fire hazard of the material in other forms or under other fire conditions. . Note that this test description is intentionally generic in nature and is intended to provide adescriptive summary to improve understanding of the test. Standards are available from the appropriate standards organizations.
