Martindale Abrasion Tester Parameters and Standards

Abrasion testing machine is mainly used for testing textiles, the outer layer of footwear, the lining of the shirt, the bottom of the shirt and similar fabrics. It can perform dry rub and wet rub tests at the same time. Under a known pressure, a circular sample performs a circular plane motion on a standard abrasive in the form of a Lissajous figure synthesized by two simple harmonic motions perpendicular to each other. Wear resistance is judged by the fact that the sample must not produce holes within the specified number of cycles.

Operating Principle:
The fabric to be tested is placed in the upper sample holder and rubbed against the abrasive installed on the grinding table. The friction trajectory is a Lissajous figure. After the specified friction phase according to the test requirements, remove the fabric and calculate the abrasion resistance index or evaluate the fuzzing and pilling level of the sample through visual description.

Test Procedure Martindale Abrasion Tester:
1. The sample is parked in the laboratory environment for more than 8 hours.
2. Cut a test piece from the flat part of the test piece. If it is an insole, it must be cut to the transfer printing area.
3. Remove the load and load shaft from the test machine.
4. Remove the top plate and test fixture.
5. Sample device: loosen the fixing ring on the test fixture, remove the sample compact, place the sample in the test fixture base, insert a piece of samplegasket between the sample and the test fixture base, then place the sample compact on the sample gasket and fix it with the fixing ring.
6. Installation of wool felt and friction cloth: Loosen the fixing screw and fixing ring, put the wool felt on the base and spread the friction cloth, press a 2.5kg pressure plate in the center of the friction cloth, replace the fixing ring and tighten the fixing screw.
7. Replace the top plate, insert the load shaft (12KPa) through the round hole on the top plate.
8. Place the test fixture with the sample facing down on the base fixture, adjust the circular groove of the test fixture to align with the load axis, and insert the load axle into the circular groove of the test fixture.
9. Set the number of times according to the standard, start the switch and start the test.
10. After the set number of times has been reached, it will automatically stop and remove the sample to complete itto determine the result.

Precautions:
1. The friction cloth cannot be used repeatedly, and a friction cloth must be replaced each time a test is completed.
2. Wool felt can be used repeatedly until the surface is worn or stained.
3. The insole must be dressed first and then the Martindale abrasion test must be performed.
