SO 12945.1 Pilling test experiment in a wheeled box

Rolling Box and Pilling Tester: Used for pilling or snagging caused by normal wear and tear. Equipped with special controller, optional standard and other test speeds for testing, and also equipped with 30rpm programmable reverse system.

[Experimental principle]
1. According to the specified methods and parameters, place the sample on the polyurethane tube and place it in the rolling square wood covered with cork under the specified conditions. In the box, compare the sample with the standard sample to evaluate the degree of pilling

[Experimental Instruments]
1. Pilling box: 235 mm (before lining), thickness of cork lining 3.2 mm, rotation speed 60 ±2r/min
2. Polyurethane sample tubes: 4, length 140 ± 1 mm, outer diameter 31.5 ± 1 mm, wall thickness 3.2 ± 0.5 mm, weight 52.25 ± 1 g
3. PVC adhesive tape: width 19 mm
4. Evaluation box: fluorescent lamp blanche (temperature does not matter), the angle between the light source and the sample is between 5° and 15°

>[Sample preparation]
1 . Pretreatment
① Unless specifically instructed, the washing procedure should be determined with the consent of the parties involved before sampling.
②. Recommended washing procedures ISO 6330 or ISO 3175.1 and ISO 3175.2
③. It is recommended to wash or dry clean the sample to reduce uneven test results
2. Cut the sample
①. Randomly cut 2 pieces of warp (horizontal) and weft (longitudinal) from the sample, with a size of 125 × 125 mm
②. Draw a marking line 12mm from the edge on the back of each sample lengthwise. The front and back cannot be distinguished. Test both sides of the sample
③, sew along the marked line into a tube shape, turn the sample over and cut 6mm from bothends of sample tube
3. Install the sample
①, cover the sample tube. Place it in the middle of the polyurethane sample tube, making sure the sample fold is flat and attached to the tube
②. Use PVC tape to tape the two ends of the sample (the length is no more than about one and a half turns), leaving a gap at both ends of the polyurethane tube. 6mm
4. Test conditions
①. Standard atmosphere conforms to ISO139, temperature 20±2℃, relative humidity 65±2﹪
②. Under the above conditions, the sample should be placed for at least 16 h

<[Test Steps]
1. The pill box should be clean before testing and no short fibers should be left
2. Put the four sample tubes into the box, close the door firmly, and start according to the specified number of rotations
3. There is no unified specified number of rotations for all textiles,The parties must therefore specify the number
4. When the specified number of rotations is reached, start removing the sample from the sample tube, remove the seams and flatten the sample

[Experimental evaluation]
1. The distance between the observer\'s eyes and the sample is 300 to 500 mm
2. Place the testle sample on the left and the original on the right
3. Evaluate the level of the test sample. The grade ranges from level 5 (no pilling) to level 1 (very heavy pilling). When the level is between two levels, the half-level must be reported.
4. The test result is the average of four test samples

1. Adopt ISO12945.1-2000
2. Sample name, specification and batch number
3. Washing or dry cleaning method with pretreatment
4. Number of test tubes and observers
5. Number of rotations
6. Test date

8. All details that deviate from this standard and abnormal phenomena during the test should be explained

[Experimental precautions]
1. It is recommended to use more than an observer to evaluate
2. Report any deterioration in surface appearance
