Thermoplastic elastomers for automotive interiors

TPE/TPR thermoplastic elastomers, also called artificial rubber or synthetic rubber. Its products not only have the excellent properties of high elasticity, aging resistance and oil resistance of traditional cross-linked vulcanized rubber, but also have the characteristics of easy processing and extensive processing methods of ordinary plastics. It can be produced by injection molding, extrusion, blow molding and other processing methods. After the corners of the nozzle are crushed, it can be 100% reused directly. This not only simplifies the processing process, but also reduces processing costs. Therefore, TPE/TPR thermoplastic elastomer materials have become the latest materials to replace traditional rubber. They are environmentally friendly, non-toxic, comfortablethem to the touch and have an exquisite appearance, which makes the products more creative. So it is also a new type of synthetic material, more humane and high quality, and it is also a world standard environmentally friendly material.

Schulman Company of Akron, Ohio, USA, announced the launch of two new thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) products in Europe for automotive applications. The two new thermoplastic elastomers are Invision VXEP ultra-high activity TPE and Invision SLX foam-molded TPE.

Develop Invision VXEP ultra-high activity TPE for multi-component injection molding of large interior parts. It allows manufacturers to mold a substrate and mold another material above or next to the substrate in a single step. Previously, the two-step machining process was widely used in small consumer products, but not inthe soft-touch decoration of large automotive parts, such as dashboards, door panels, doormats and armrests.

The new Invision series ultra-high activity TPEs allow automakers greater design flexibility, such as multi-touch and multi-tune designs, as well as improved craftsmanship, including excellent ripple resolution, high contrast colors, clean design and precise appearance. Other benefits of Invision Ultra-High Activity TPE include low surface gloss, low haze, excellent weather and scratch resistance. Next-generation products are also under development.

Likewise, Invision SLX slush-molded TPE offers manufacturers greater design flexibility to meet sharp semi-circular diameter anddeep curvature, as well as defined waves and solid color. . For dashboards, door panels and consoles, Invision SLX also offers a cost-effective alternative to die-cast thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) or spray-on isocyanate.
